ANDY (A.J.) COX

Andy J. (A.J.) Cox, age 80, went to his heavenly home on Monday, July 14, 2025. He was born on August 29, 1944 in Middlesboro, Kentucky. He was a member of the Pump Springs Baptist Church in Harrogate, Tennessee and a Free Mason.

His career in the coal mines began at Mountain Drive Coal Company before he transferred to the mines in Perry County, Kentucky. He retired with 26 years of service in the industry.

A.J. was preceded in death by his parents, Martha Jane Cox and Andy Morrison, and his brother Billy Ray Cox.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Valerie; daughter, Theda (Marson) Mayes of Speedwell, TN; son, Brandon Cox of Middlesboro; granddaughter Mikaela (Jeremy) Mize of Forge Ridge, TN; great-grandsons Jerron Mize and Jaxon Mize of Forge Ridge, TN. He also leaves behind many family and friends whom he loved.

The family would like to thank the Middlesboro Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility’s Staff for their care and compassion during his illness.

The family of A.J. Cox will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at the Green Hills Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.

Graveside Services will follow at 1:30 p.m.
