Betty Jane Smith, age 95, of Speedwell, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at the Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital. Betty was born on January 19, 1931 in Newport, Tennessee to the late Robert and Clara Barnes Belcher. Betty had been a homemaker.
Betty loved to be around people and make them laugh, but more than anything she loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She truly loved her family and cherished every picture she had of them. Betty enjoyed to quilt, and to read - even having her own private library. In her spare time, Betty could be found working in her yard and tending to her flower garden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edmond Smith, granddaughter Cari Smith, two brothers, Jimmy and Lloyd Belcher, and sister, Pearlie Hubbard.
Left to cherish her memory, her sons, Steve Smith and wife Janet of Speedwell, Tennessee, Kenny Smith and wife Carol of Newport News, Virginia, daughter, Linda Ferrell and husband Warren of Madisonville, Tennessee, sister, Anna B. Miller of Ohio, grandchildren Evan Ferrell of Knoxville, Tennessee, Amy Lambert and husband Brandon, of Knoxville, Tennessee, Lori Hess and husband Derek of Johnson City, Tennessee, Laci Grasty and husband Jamie of Newport News, Virginia, Rani Damon and husband Cory of Suffolk, Virginia, and Wade Smith and fiance Marie, of NewPort News, Virginia, great grandchildren, Gabriel Ferrell, Liam Hess, Evy Hess, Lilli Damon, Coltin Damon, Thomas Grasty, and Charis Grasty, special friend, Della Hoskins, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
The family of Betty Smith will receive friends at Green Hills Funeral Home in Middlesboro on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 12 noon until the funeral hour of 2:00 pm.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 2, 2026, with Rev. Johnny Parker officiating.
Burial will follow at Smith Family Cemetery in Pineville, Kentucky, with friends and family serving as pallbearers.
