Bill Burkhart, age 74, a resident of Harrogate, Tennessee, formerly of Evarts, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on January 7, 2026 while surrounded by his loving family.
He was born February 24, 1951 in Evarts, the son of the late Rev. Robert Glen and Lois Hayes Burkhart. Bill was very proud of his Southeastern Kentucky roots and loved his Harlan County Heritage.
Bill was a wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend. A saved and born-again believer, Bill loved the Lord and was grounded in his Christian faith. In his professional career, he was District Manager of Commonwealth Insurance for over 13 years. His deep-rooted love for the hills of Southeastern Kentucky also played a role in his long-time profession as an owner and operator of a coal trucking business which he did for 30 plus years. After his retirement, he couldn’t quite hang up his hat just yet - his love for trucking and coal continued as he drove for CMT.
He was also a faithful and proud member of the Yocum Creek Masonic Lodge #897 for fifty years – a milestone of commitment and dedication which exemplified the type of man Bill was.
Bill’s true passion in life however was fishing and horses, both of which he immensely loved and thoroughly enjoyed. Above all these careers and hobbies though, he loved his family immeasurably and cherished any time spent with them.
Left to cherish his memory, wife Toni Cox Burkhart, son Brad Burkhart and wife Alicia, granddaughter Addison Burkhart, brother Robert Glen “Bogie” Burkhart, step-son Ronnie Cox and wife Kim, step-grandson Nick Cox, as well as a host of many other relatives and friends too numerous to name, but all who will miss him so dearly.
