Billy Ray Smith, age 71, of Middlesboro, Kentucky passed away August 1, 2025 at St. Joseph Hospital, in Lexington, Kentucky.
He was born in Bell County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late James and Evelyn York Smith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Jimmy, James, and Jabo Smith.
Billy was a hard-working man, who supported his family hauling coal for many years driving up and down these Kentucky hollers and highways in his coal truck. He spent his leisure time on the lake fishing and taking in the beautiful mountains. He often relaxed just sitting on his porch enjoying the beauty around him. Billy’s blood ran blue; he was an avid University of Kentucky fan - even when they were behind - he always pulled for and cheered on his Cats.
Left to cherish his memory, his loving wife Bonnie Smith, son Scott (Melissa) Smith, granddaughter Amber Poore, great-grandson Luke Poore, sister Carolyn (Danny) Patterson, brother Al (Martha) Smith, along with his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends who will miss him so very much.
The family of Billy Ray Smith will receive friends from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025 at Green Hills Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025 at the Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Warwick officiating.
Graveside services will follow in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens, Middlesboro, Kentucky.
