Charles Prater, age 88, of Middlesboro, Kentucky passed away June 7, 2026 at his home.
He was born on June 10, 1937 in Bell County, Kentucky and was the son of the late Roscoe and Rose Brown Prater.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jim Prater, Elmer Prater, Jack Prater, Herb Prater, Boss Prater, Ray Prater, Little Ed Prater, and twins Frankin and Delano Prater, and sisters Josephine (Arnold) Duncan and Jean (Bill) Bennett.
Charles worked at Chrysler and retired in 1989 after a 30 year career in the auto industry. He loved the Lord and attended church at Fonde Church of God. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Charles loved his family and was very devoted to them.
Left to mourn his passing, his loving wife of 64 years, Gerri Prater, sons, John Prater and Dave (Diana) Prater, daughter, Faith (Bill) Shingler, grandchildren, Kayla and Justin Prater, great-grandchild, Wesley Miller, sisters, Ann (Alva) Cunningham and Lavenda Sue Carrol, sisters-in-law, Betty Prater, Ruth Prater, and Sue Prater, and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
The family of Charles Prater will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Green Hills Funeral Home on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2026 in the Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cecil Johnson and Rev. Eddie Johnson presiding. Music will be provided by Alva Cunningham and the Fonde Church of God Singers.
Interment will follow at Green Hills Memorial Gardens.
