CHRISTEEN DILBECK JONES MAYES

Christeen Dilbeck Jones Mayes, age 85, of Middlesboro, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on July 5, 2026 while surrounded by her loving family.

She was born April 10, 1941 in Middlesboro, the daughter of the late Cares and Daphna Lovitt Dilbeck.

Christeen was a devoted member of Red Oak Baptist Church and loved her church family dearly.  Although she was no longer able to attend services in her later years, her faith remained steadfast, and her heart was always with her church family.

Christeen spent many years as an employee at Pineville Community Hospital.  After moving to Corbin, Kentucky, she was retail manager at Behrs Clothing Store and worked for many years at the Corbin dialysis clinic.

In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her sister Charlene Thomas and brother-in-law Ray Thomas as well as her daughter-in-law Wanda Jones.

Left to cherish her memory is her family who she loved dearly; son Ronald Jones, daughter Pennie (Elder Rick) Dorton, son Rev. Dale (Ginger) Jones, son Mike (Debbie) Myers and daughter Karen Mayes.  Grandchildren whom she raised as her own Taelor (Austin) Poindexter and Kristopher Patterson. Beloved grandchildren Scottie (Laura) Dorton, Heather Smith (Rob Redwine), Candice (Madison) Barnett, and Courtney (Tony) Kysar.  Great-grandchildren Emma (AJ Olivas) and Reagan Dorton; Cassidie and Trinitie Smith; Jax Evans and Ripley and Maizley Barnett; Maelynn Hood; and Rylee and Kynsley Poindexter. Half siblings Wanda (Duane) Childers, James (Tina) Dilbeck, David (Natalie) Dilbeck, and Tim (Delia) Dilbeck.  She is also survived by a special friend Patricia Burchfield who faithfully checked on her and was a constant source of friendship and care.  She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with her.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Sherri Robertson of Harrogate Family Health as well as to the staff of Middlesboro Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility for their compassion, care and support that they provided throughout her journey.  Their dedication and concern for her well-being brought comfort not only to Christeen, but to all those who loved her.

The family of Christeen Mayes will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at Green Hills Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at the Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Jones and Elder Rick Dorton presiding. Music will be provided by Courtney Kysar and the Red Oak Church Choir.

Graveside Services will immediately follow at the John Jackson Cemetery, Laurel Hill, Pineville, Kentucky.

Pallbearers will be Scottie Dorton, Tony Kysar, Austin Poindexter, Coty Myers, Matt Myers, Josh Hensley, AJ Olivas, Don Webb, Mason Wallen and Rob Redwine. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be Greg Poindexter, Earl Roberts, Dennis Earls, Jerry Marcum, Sherman Partin, Mike Myers, Madison Barnett, Ronnie Gambrel and Rev. John Ledger.
