FRANCES WATSON Obituary

Our beautiful Mother, Frances Gwynn McNeel Watson, has gone to heaven, where she joins her parents (Alexander McNeel and Irene Lydon McNeel), her two sisters (Roberta McNeel Dassat and Phyllis McNeel Fister), her husband (William Allen Watson), and her twin sons (William Clayton Watson and Walter Clinton Watson). She was 85. We know that, in God’s time, we will join them for a joyful reunion. Families are forever.

She is survived by her two daughters, Kitty Watson and Christina Watson, and her grandson, Erik Utterstrom.

Frances was born in North Platte, Nebraska, on November 19, 1938. She grew up on a farm there and moved to Pasadena, California, where she attended her senior year of high school at South Pasadena High School. She was employed at the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the Los Angeles field office, where she met our Dad and then devoted her life to being a wife and mother. They lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Frankfort, Kentucky, and then Lexington, Kentucky, before moving to Middlesboro, Kentucky, our Dad’s hometown..

She enjoyed listening to music, watching movies, reading our Dad’s poetry, taking care of numerous dogs and cats, and collecting seashells.

In her later years, she filled her days with feeding the wildlife that came through our woods. She loved taking care of living creatures. She spoke to them as if they were visiting friends and neighbors and never let them go hungry. However, she was known to shoo off the occasional bear.

She believed strongly in the afterlife and the Divine. She was fond of saying prayers for people who needed them.

Mother resided at the Middlesboro Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility from November 27, 2023 until she passed away on May 23, 2024. We would like to thank them for the excellent, kind, and loving care they gave her.

We would also like to thank Mr. Freddy Brock of Middlesboro for his tremendous help to both Mother and Dad over the years.

In keeping with Mother’s wishes, there will be no funeral or celebration of life service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Friends of the Middlesboro Cemetery.
