John Brittain Cawood, age 71, of Genoa, West Virginia, passed away on April 23, 2025 while surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 28, 1953 in Harlan County, Kentucky to the late Walter Bruce and Bobby Sue Brooks Cawood.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Chad Cawood, and brothers Steve Cawood and Hiram Cawood.
John was a hardworking family man who loved his children and grandchildren more than anything. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed homesteading and simply admiring nature. John also had a green thumb; he could grow anything and was exceptional at gardening. When John wasn’t tending to his garden, he could be found on the lake casting reels and catching as many fish as he could or traveling the roads sightseeing. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Navy. John’s love for his family, nature and the great outdoors will be remembered – a lasting legacy cherished by those who loved him most.
Left to cherish his memory, his partner of 12 years, Carol Wallace, daughters Brooke (Tommy) Houston, Tonya Bargo and Bobby Jeane Cawood, sons Mark (Heather) Cawood, Little John Cawood, Sean Bargo and Kenneth Griffin, brother Walter Bruce Cawood Jr., grandchildren Brookney Houston, Katelynn Houston, Memphis Houston, Gavin Houston, Alyssa Houston, Freya Howerton, Angie Bartley, Johanna Cawood, Alex Cawood, Summer Cawood, Samantha Cawood, Dillow Houston Cawood, Tristan Cawood, Santanna Tibbits, Malachi Woodard, Damion Fuller, Anton Harris, Lilly Harris, Layla Franklin and Payton Franklin, as well as a host of many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
The family of John Cawood will receive friends from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Green Hills Funeral Home.
Graveside Services will immediately follow at the Cawood Cemetery in Harlan, Kentucky.
Green Hills Funeral Home, Middlesboro, is honored to serve the Cawood Family.
