JOHN E COLLINS

John Edward “Johnny” Collins, age 76 a resident of Pineville, KY, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at the UK Medical Center.

Born on August 26, 1949, to the late Roy W. Collins and Marjorie E. Collins, Johnny lived a life defined by service, strength, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Ford and Rose Lawson; his beloved wife, Martha Jo Collins; his son, John Mark Collins; and his brother, Terry Collins. 

Johnny is survived by his daughter, Hailey Wagner (Chad); his cherished grandchildren, Cayden, Aven, Rowyn, and Declan Wagner; and Damon Collins. He is also survived by his brother, Roy L. Collins (Barbara); sister-in-law, Lutricia Woods (Dennis); nephews Todd Collins (Ann), Richard Waters, Joel Woods (Tracey), Jason Woods (Lauren), Lawson Woods (Morgan), Andrew Collins (Starla) and Todd Green (Elizabeth) and nieces Gabrielle Waters, Brianna Collins, Anna Woods, Ava Woods and Olivia Woods. Each of them held a special place in his heart.

Johnny devoted his life to law enforcement and public service. A proud member of the Kentucky State Police, he served Post 10 faithfully for 25 years as a Kentucky State Trooper. During his tenure at KSP, he was instrumental in bringing the D.A.R.E Program to students in schools in the Post 10 area. Following his retirement, he continued his commitment to community safety as Fleet Safety Director at England’s. He later answered the call to serve once more when he was appointed Police Chief of Pineville, a position he held until 2005. Johnny concluded his distinguished career in 2014 as Jail Administrator with the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office. His career reflected not only dedication and leadership, but a deep respect for the badge and the people it represents.

He was a devoted member of East Pineville Baptist Church, where he faithfully worshiped and found strength in his faith. His church family meant a great deal to him. 

Johnny will be remembered for his steady presence, his strong sense of duty, and the love he poured into his family. Whether wearing a uniform or spending time with his grandchildren, he carried himself with quiet strength and integrity. His legacy lives on in the lives he protected, the community he served, and the family he cherished.

The family of Johnny Collins will receive friends on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Green Hills Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 8, at Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harve Ledford officiating. Music will be provided by Mountain Heir.

Full Honors will be given by the Kentucky State Police Honor Guard.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Troopers of the Kentucky State Police and the officers of the Pineville Police Department.
