John Angel Gent, age 80, of Middlesboro, Kentucky went to his heavenly home on December 4, 2025 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
He was born December 1, 1945, son to the late Fred and Gladys Ayers Gent. In addition to his parent, he is proceeded in death by his brothers, Vernon, Don, Hermon “Blackie”, William “Whitie”, and Loran “Spud”, and sisters, Virginia Cuatt, Laverne, and Shirley.
Survivors include his wife Barbara Hale Gent of Pineville, Kentucky, sons, Ed, Tim, Bart (Angie) and Cole Gent. Stepchildren, Ashley Anderson (Brian Combs), and Jeffrey. Brother, Fred Gent of Cookesville, Tennessee, sisters, Gladys Jean of Nebraska, and Sandra Kay (Roger Garland) of Harrogate, Tennessee. Brother-in-law, Chuck Hale of Pineville, Kentucky, and sister-in-law, Maryrose Durbin Gent of Hamilton, Ohio. Grandchildren, Allie, Haley, Ryker, Myra, Ryan, Riley, Megan, Grace, Brooklynn, Carter, Kacen, and Brody. John is also survived by nine great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends who will miss him dearly.
John was a Licensed Kentucky Land Surveyor and worked many years with the state, J.M. Huber Land Corporation (retiring), Forester and Timber Cruiser for American Forest Management, and Begleys Lumber. He was also a Laboratory Technician in his early years.
John had a passion for sports. He also boxed at a young age and coached little league and senior league baseball for years. He also played softball in adult leagues and was also a part of the Cumberland Valley Softball League.
He was an avid gardener and loved to Fish, hunt, and watch western movies. John’s greatest passion was his family.
The family of John Angel Gent will receive friends Sunday, December 7, 2025 at Green Hills Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at Green Hills Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Padgett officiating.
Graveside services will follow in Green Hills Memorial Gardens.
