JOHN GILMOUR HERD

John Gilmour Herd, age 81, of Middlesboro, Kentucky passed away December 18, 2024, at the Claiborne Medical Center in Tazewell, Tennessee.

He was born in Kircaldy, Scotland on October 10, 1943, to the late Alexander Herd and Robina Stenhouse Colley.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Michael John Herd and his grandson Brett Sizemore. His Mother and Father-in-law Ralph and Elizabeth Denny. 

John was a true Scotsman who was very proud of his Scottish birth.  And he was also proud of his second birth as he was a Christian and a member of the Rose Hill Community Pentecostal Church where he loved to worship his Lord and Savior and sing hymns of faith.  He enjoyed spending time outside whether it be at work or leisure.  He was a family man and at the center of his heart were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; any time spent with them was time well spent.

He leaves behind his devoted, loving wife of 57 years, Wilma Herd, daughters Sandra Sizemore and Michelle (Marty) Partin, brothers Fredrick (Lorie) Colley, Neal (Linda) Colley, and Bruce (Glenda) Colley, sister Rhonda (Gail) Shrewsbury, grandchildren Christopher Sizemore, Timothy Sizemore, Brittany (Joshua) Lambert, Justin Partin, Tiffany Partin, Joshua Partin, Amber Sizemore, 12 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and precious friends who will miss him dearly.

The family of John Herd will receive friends Sunday, December 22, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Green Hills Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 2024 at the Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rodney Hensley presiding. Music will be provided by Delores Hensley. 

Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2024, at Green Hills Memorial Gardens.  Full military honors will be presented.

Pallbearers will be Justin Partin, Joshua Partin, Timothy Sizemore, Jacob Sullivan, Joshua Lambert, and Jeremy Wilder.
