JOHN MADON

John Alan Madon passed away on June 26^th, 2024 at the University of Florida Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, following a brief illness. He was blessed with 75 years of life that were filled with love, laughter, good food, and great memories with a family that will miss him deeply. John was a patient, loving father and grandfather who was always quick to smile and slow to anger. 

John was born March 12^th, 1949, in Middlesboro, KY to Arnold and Opal Rucker Madon. He was baptized at Binghamtown Baptist Church in 1959 and was a lifelong Christian. He grew up riding dirt bikes and exploring the mountains of Southeastern Kentucky with friends that he remained close to until the time of his death. John graduated from Lincoln Memorial University with a degree in Business and achieved a graduate degree in Banking from the Graduate School of Banking at LSU. In 1977, he moved to London, KY where he worked as a banker at First National Bank and Citizens Guaranty Bank until his retirement in 2020. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in London, where he enjoyed sharing his faith through serving as a Sunday School Teacher more than 40 years. John also served his country as a member of the Army National Guard.

John loved the outdoors and would take every opportunity to go four-wheeling in the mountains around his home. He had a sharp mind and enjoyed engaging in intelligent conversations about current events, theology, and the Kentucky Wildcats. John especially appreciated sharing a good meal with friends and those closest to him. He loved and cherished time with his family, especially his grandson, Levi.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edward Craig Madon. He is survived by his two daughters, Amy M. Madon, of Lexington, KY, and Dr. Ashley M. Thompson (Lee Thompson), of Newberry, FL; one grandson, Levi Rucker Thompson, of Newberry, FL; and one sister, Vicki C. Byrne (Mikel Byrne) of Easley, SC.

Services will be held on Friday, July 5^th, 2024, with visitation at 5PM followed by the funeral service at 8PM at First Baptist Church in London, KY with Pastor Terry T. Lester officiating. A Celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, July 6^th 2024 at 10AM at Green Hills Memorial Gardens in Middlesboro, KY. All friends, classmates and loved ones are welcomed and encouraged to attend. Pallbearers will be Lee Thompson, Garry Bingham, Bob Whited, Mikel Byrne, Jimbo Helton, and Mack Yoakum. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Galilean Children’s Home in Liberty, KY.
