KATE DURHAM

Kate Durham, age 90, a resident of Harrogate, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on June 5, 2025 with loving family at her side.

She was born on July 22, 1934 in Fonde, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Andrew and Virgie Lee Meyers Norton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Bob Norton, Bill Norton, Andy Norton, Mary Helen “Pat” Burns, Betty Jill Blackmon, Frances Gibson, father and mother-in-law Caleb and Effie Durham, and brother’s and sister’s-in-law Cleda Guy, Janice Dillinger, Carolyn Daughtery, Charles Marvin Durham and Don King.  

A heart full of love and small hands ready to work, Kate was a caretaker of many things including children, flowers and her garden. A mother figure to many, she not only babysat various kids, but she raised them with abundant love. With those hands she also grew the most beautiful flowers and enjoyed gardening. It didn’t matter what it was, Kate could grow anything and had an excellent “green thumb”. Some other favorite past-times Kate enjoyed were traveling, swimming, birdwatching and getting in the creeks to catch a big crawdad. No matter where she was or what she was into, Kate always had a smile, a bright laugh and a good time.

Aside from the various activities Kate thoroughly loved, her love for her family and her Savior were above all. A long-time member of Summey’s Bridge Missionary Baptist Church, she took extra care in seeing to their Bible school every year; making sure every child was cared for and well-fed. She was a devoted and loving wife to her husband Herbert – having been married just shy of 58 years.  Kate’s sweet, infectious smile and her abundant overflowing love will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to be a recipient of it. A “grower” for the Lord, Kate grew the lives of children, flowers and a love that will forever blossom.

Left to cherish her memory, loving husband Herbert Durham, sister-in-law Lena Treece and husband Gary, siblings James (Linda) Norton, Phyllis (Gary Henkle) Martin, Peggy King, Barbara (Andrew Counts) Samaniego, brother and sister’s-in-law Larry Blackmon, Drucilla Norton, Ruby Norton and Mildred Norton. She had a significant impact and hand in the raising of her many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, especially Daisy Paul, Opie Paul and Olivia Paul. She will as well be missed by many other relatives, friends, and those whose lives she touched throughout the years.

The family of Kate Durham will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at Green Hills Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. at the Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mitchell Keck and Rev. Chad Redmond presiding.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2025 at the Town Creek Memorial Gardens in Powell Valley. Family and friends will meet at Green Hills Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. for a 10:15 a.m. processional to the cemetery.
