KATHERINE "NANNY" REDMOND

Katherine Redmond, affectionately known by many as “Nanny”, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 8, 2026 at Middlesboro Nursing and Rehabilitation with her loving family surrounding her.

She was born December 4, 1947 in Clairfield, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Paul and Faye King Powers.

In addition to her parents, she was reunited in Heaven with her husband of 62 years, Kenneth Doyle Redmond, her beloved daughter Janet Faye Redmond and her father and mother-in-law Lee and Edna Redmond.

To know Nanny was to love her; she had a heart that overflowed with love and a naturally nurturing spirit. She enjoyed children and babysat for several families over the span of many years – always showering them with tender care and making sure she shared not only her love with them, but the love of the Lord.

Nanny was a member of Hensley’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she enjoyed worshipping and was also a Sunday School Teacher for many years at Bennett’s Fork Baptist Church where she further served her calling to care for children.

She also thoroughly enjoyed her professional career as Dietician at Middlesboro Nursing and Rehabilitation. She had such good working experiences and loved the residents she cared for, that she was joyful to spend her final days there in a place that felt like home.

A true Proverbs 31 woman, Nanny sought good all the days of her life, worked diligently with her hands to care for and tend to others, and took honor in blessing her household. Her price was far above rubies, and the fruitful work of her hands have followed her into the gates of Heaven.

Left to cherish her memory, loving daughter Jeannie Redmond, grandchildren Misti McGrath and husband James, Jessica Trentham and husband Brian, great-grandchildren Emilee Katherine McGrath, Allison McGrath, Claira Trentham and Landon Trentham, siblings Wayne Powers and wife Kathy, Billy Powers and wife Sarah and Betty Douglas, brothers and sister in-law Ancil Redmond, Charles Redmond and Maxine Roark, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and the many children she cared for over the years that will love, miss her and think of her fondly.

A special and heartfelt thank you to Middlesboro Nursing and Rehabilitation Staff for their exceptional care of Nanny during her time there. 

The family of Katherine Redmond will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2026 at Green Hills Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2026 at the Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Sutton and Rev. Paul Gibson presiding. Music will be provided by Regina Williams, Tawana Grimm and the Hensley’s Chapel Choir.

Interment will be private.
