Larry Douglas Thacker Sr., age 75, a resident of Middlesboro, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
He was born on November 7, 1946 in Middlesboro, Kentucky to the late Howard Roy and Ethel Smith Thacker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Mary Charles Thacker, and brothers Vernon Thacker and John Thacker.
Larry was a proud Veteran with the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam War between 1967 and 1968. He held many accomplishments during his life, including but not limited to, being inducted into the Middlesboro High School Football Hall of Fame, a former Middlesboro City Councilman, a founding member of the Tri-State Veterans Group which he loved, and was a Kentucky Colonel. In his professional career, he was a welder and shop manager for J.R. Hoe and Sons where he retired after 40 years. Among these great accomplishments however, Larry was a proud Christian, a former Deacon at his church, and was a loving husband of 51 years to Mary Charles.
He is survived by the following members of his family, son Larry Thacker Jr. (Karin O’Brien), daughter LeAnn Stepp (Michael), sisters Barbara Burford and Bonnie Rosnick, grandchildren John Blondell (Alexis Brady), Justin Blondell (Sarah Sherman), Evan Stepp (Jessica Stepp), and Rainey Fountain, great-grandchildren Bowie Charles Blondell, Olivia Warren, and Millie Stepp, special friends Mike Marcum and his comrades in the Tri-State Veterans Group, as well as a host of many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
The family of Larry Thacker will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Green Hills Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2022 at the Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ken Cole officiating.
Graveside Services will be conducted at the Hurst Cemetery, Middlesboro, at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2022 with Full Military Honors presented by the Jellico Honor Guard. Eulogy given by Mr. Mike Marcum.
