LEWIS TONEY PRATER

Lewis Toney Prater, age 81, of Middlesboro, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2025 while surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 1, 1944 in Middlesboro to the late Dorsey Prater and Agnes Stokes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jonny Lewis Prater, brothers Welford Prater and Bobby Stokes, stepfather Hayes Stokes, granddaughter Katelyn Rose Prater, grandson Shannon Minor, and great grandson Aaron Casey Lester.

Toney was a pillar of the faith and a true man of God. He loved the Lord with all his heart and lived to tell others about Jesus. He was saved 51 years ago and became a lifelong member and Deacon of Faith Temple Church. From living room meetings to the new church on the highway, Toney was there from the start. Throughout those years, Toney touched the lives of countless people – ministering and loving others with a Christ-like love.

An exceptionally talented carpenter, Toney’s most prized achievement was building the new Faith Temple Church – a labor of love and dedication not only to his church, but to the Lord. He could tell you about every nail hole and piece of wood in the building. He poured his love for Jesus into that project, and spent a lot of his time there worshipping.

Toney was also a family man who enjoyed having all his kids and grandkids under one roof together. He also had a great love for horses, so much so that he always said when he got to Heaven he hoped he could tend to Jesus’ horses.

A great Husband, Father, Grandfather and true man of God has left his earthly home into eternity with the Lord. Though he will be so missed by those who loved him most, we rejoice in that he has gained his ultimate healing. His unwavering faith and love for Jesus will shine on throughout his family, church and those whose lives he touched while here.

Left to cherish his memory, loving wife of 63 years, Louise King Prater, daughters Kathy Brock and husband Carl, Lisa Prater, Rebekah Garrett and husband Charlie, son Toney Lewis Prater Jr., grandchildren Preston Brock, Courtney and Joe Jones, Jennifer Huffman, Raymond and Casey Lester, Mindy Lester, Megan Lester, Jonathan Prater, Brandon Prater, Brittney Prater and Gary Lee Jr., Austin Garrett, Jayden Garrett, brothers Wayne Prater and wife Becky, Ricky Stokes and wife Dwanette, 15 great-grandchildren, as well as his brothers and sisters in Christ at Faith Temple, other relatives and friends who will miss him so dearly.

The family of Toney Prater will receive friends from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Faith Temple Church.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Faith Temple Church with Pastor T.R Christopher and Pastor David King presiding.

Graveside Services will follow for family at the Prater Family Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Green Hills Funeral Home to help cover final expenses.
