LOIS OWENS Obituary

Lois Arlena Irwin Owens died December 4, 2020 at Tri-State Health of Harrogate where she had been a resident for the past four years. She was born February 24, 1934 in Middlesboro, Kentucky at her Aunt Ruby Maxwell's home on Willow Street.                  

She was preceded in death by her father and mother James Otis Irwin and Bessie Lee Yeary Irwin, infant brother Gerald Irwin, and infant sister Ruby Irwin, husband Charles Edward "Ed" Owens and son Timothy James "Buck" Owens. 

She is survived by her sons Charles Edward "Chuck" Owens III (Carolyn Sue) and Scott Anthony Owens (Pam) of Middlesboro, brother Walter Calvin Irwin of Livonia, Georgia, sister-in-law Bessie Owens Chambers and Gathel Owens Ross of Louisville, she is also survived by her grandson Joshua Scott Owens, her great-grandchildren and many cousins and friends. 

Lois was raised in the Binghamtown area near her great-grandparents, John Edward and Matilda Eden Yeary and loved with her family in Detroit for several years during and after World War II. She attended Douglas Houghton School in Detroit and Central School and Junior High in Middlesboro. Lois graduated from Middlesboro High School, class of 1952. While in high school, she worked for the Middlesboro Hospital and the Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company. Lois was married to Ed Owens on April 24, 1954 at the Binghamtown Baptist Church. After their marriage, they lived in Louisville, Kentucky for a short time and moved back to Middlesboro.  The family moved again in 1966 to a farm at Frog Level near Ewing, Virginia. In 1974 they returned to Middlesboro.

Lois was saved and baptized at age seven and was a member of the Binghamtown Baptist Church. She was a talented visual artist who loved to draw and paint most anything but she especially liked to visualize things others could not see. 

The family will meet for a private visitation on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Green Hills Funeral Home. 

A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday,  December 8, 2020 at the Green Hills Memorial Gardens Gazebo Chapel with Mr. Garry Bingham and Dr. William Boyd Bingham III. Lois will be buried beside her husband Ed Owens. A funeral procession will meet at Green Hills Funeral Home at 1:45 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Brian Orick, Lige "Red" Nichols and Scott Owens.
