MARY SUELLA MARS Obituary

Mary Suella “Sue” Mars was born on July 12,1928 to parents, Harrison and Blaine Ausmus in Wells Springs Community, LaFollette, Tennessee, where she grew up.

Sue graduated from LaFollette High School in 1946 and in the fall of ’46 attended Lincoln Memorial University.  While there she joined the Delta Theta Sigma Sorority and maintained many of those friends throughout the years.  LMU continued to be a big part throughout her life.

In 1950 Sue married Sam A. Mars, Jr. and resided in Middlesboro.  Having joined the Methodist Church at an early age, she and Sam were loyal members of Trinity Methodist Church which later became Covenant Methodist.  She served on numerous church committees and was a choir member for over thirty years.  She loved her church and very seldom missed sitting in her pew on Sunday mornings.

Both Sam and Sue were avid golfers and played numerous courses throughout their golfing careers.  Sue served on several committees at the Middlesboro Country Club and served as President of the Ladies Association.

Sue published two books.  First being “Meditations” and later “Collections”. Both being reflections on her thoughts on life.

Sue and Sam enjoyed traveling.  During their life, they were able to visit numerous countries, as well as most of the U.S.  Many of those trips were made with their close friends.

Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Sam, her daughter, Suzanne, her parents, 4 brothers, and 2 sisters, and several nieces and nephews.

Surviving her are two sons, Sam (Debbie) and Steve, nine grandchildren, Christy (Chauncey) Beeler, Kim (Stu) McCullough, Brad Mars, Mary Margaret Mars, Megan (Jordan) Hall, Stephanie McCune, Jason (Brandi) Lambdin, Alex (Chelsea) Mars, Andy Mars, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and one nephew, Terry Claiborne.  Also surviving, her “Godchild”, Anna Dale Pyles, special friends Nadean Meredith and Emily Smith.

The Mars Family would like to thank her caregivers that were with her over the past 2 years.  A special thank you to Clara Napier, Heather Hamblin and Chelsey, Angie Lingar, and Christy Cupp, who were with her until the end.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel.

Entombment services will follow in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Her grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lincoln Memorial University or Covenant Methodist Church.
