PATRICIA SAMS Obituary

Patricia Sams, age 71, of Ewing, VA, went to her heavenly home on July 17, 2025. She was born on October 9, 1953, to the late Lois Cole Debusk.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, the late Lois Cole Debusk and Clifford Bryant, and her beloved brother, Richard “Rick” Bryant. She is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Curtis Ray Sams; her loving children, Candace (Brad Gulley) Sams of Middlesboro, KY, Matthew (Jenna) Sams of London, KY, and Lindsey (Jake) Sams-Wilson of Fairlawn, VA; her grandchildren, Hayden (Carrie) Sams, Grant Gulley, Rhett Gulley, and Mattalyn Sams; beloved in-laws; a cherished circle of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of lifelong friends.

Pat was a devout Christian, whose faith in the Lord was something she wore for others to see. It was the quiet strength that carried her throughout all of life’s mountains and valleys, and the light she left behind in every life she touched. She lived by Christ’s example and raised her children to do the same – serving others with humility, loving without conditions, and giving more than she ever asked in return. She gave with quiet hands and a generous heart, always knowing just what was needed. Her love could be found in the little things: a home-cooked meal, a
handwritten card, a thoughtful gift, a gentle word spoken at the right time.

Pat had an unrivaled passion for cooking for her family and friends, and was widely known for her delicious meals and her ability to impart her love into every dish. She was locally famous for her sweet tea. She took great pride in her cookbook and recipe collection, comprised of those handed down for generations, those of famous cooks, and those of her own.

In addition to her fervor for cooking, Pat loved shopping trips with her friends and family. She’d sometimes shop for hours, throughout multiple stores, looking for the “perfect gift” for someone she loved.

She was a proud member of the local chapter of the Red Hat Society. As Queen, she exuded all the qualities that make the Red Hat Society so special: enriching the lives of other women through fun, friendship, and fellowship.

The Sams family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to those who loved Pat so fiercely during her lifetime, those who outpoured love, prayers, and support during her illness, and those who continue to envelop her family in sympathy, tenderness, and fondness of heart.

Services will be conducted at Green Hills Funeral Home in Middlesboro, Kentucky, on Saturday, July 26, 2025. The family of Patricia Sams will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., succeeded by a funeral officiated by Rev. Ken Cole. Burial shall follow at Sams Cemetery on Sams Mountain in Middlesboro, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Pat’s honor toward “Blessing Boxes,” a local philanthropy organized by her daughter to help ease food insecurity in our community by providing a Thanksgiving meal to families in need. Donations may be made at Community Trust Bank or to Pat’s daughter, Candace. Alternatively, please consider a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, as this was also a cause near to her heart.
