REV. JAY CAREY

Rev. Jack D. “Jay” Carey Jr., age 60, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2021 at his home while surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Middlesboro, KY on July 4, 1960 to the late Jack D. Carey Sr. and Emma Kettenring Carey.

There are not enough words to describe what a wonderful husband, father, brother, and friend that Jay was. He was Saved in high school and immediately felt God’s calling and purpose for his life. He served faithfully as a Youth Pastor for 20 years in addition to all his other years in the ministry; he loved the Lord and serving. Jay was an avid fisherman and enjoyed watching the University of Kentucky Wildcats in football and basketball. Of all his hobbies though, he loved to watch anything his daughters were involved in the most. Any sport or hobby they competed in, Jay would be there cheering them on. He was a true family man, always putting their needs above his own. All who were blessed to have known Jay will remember his love of the Lord and his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Brenda Carey and father-in-law C.T. Hughes.

Left to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 35 years Micheline Hughes Carey, special daughters whom he adored, Jaymine Carey and Allyson Carey, sister Jackie Levakis and husband Vasilios, niece and nephew Anastasia Levakis and John Levakis, sister-in-law Denise Hughes, mother-in-law Janette Hughes, as well as a host of many special friends, cousins, other relatives and friends too numerous to name, but all of whom Jay loved dearly.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice of the Bluegrass, especially nurses Nikki, Cindy and Mackenzie for the excellent care they provided.

Receiving of friends for Jay Carey will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Green Hills Funeral Home beginning at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at the Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Boyd Bingham and Rev. Bruce Waltzer officiating.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2021 at the Riverview Cemetery, Harrogate, TN.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jimmy Estep, Chuck Marsee, Paul Hensley, Gary Ferguson, Kevin Miller and Dr. Robert “B.T.” Thomas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions in Jay’ memory be made to the American Cancer Society – C/O Hope Lodge, 1500 College Way, Lexington, KY 40502 or to Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, N.C., 28607.
