SUSAN KAY HOWARD

Susan Kay Howard, age 62, of Middlesboro, Kentucky passed away December 9, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on July 2, 1962 in Middlesboro, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Clyde and Lorene Smith.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Ronnie Allen Smith.

She was a faithful member of Clear Fork Missionary Baptist Church.  Susan, lovingly known as “Miss Susie” worked 20 years at Gateway Christian School where she loved the kids, their families, the teachers and staff, and the folks of the Binghamtown Baptist Church.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.  She had a sweet spirit, humble heart, and we can truly say, she loved everybody she met.  Yes, “Miss Susie” was a veritable ray of sunshine in the lives of every person who was blessed to have come across her path. 

She is survived by the following members of her family, her loving husband of over 40 years, Harmon Howard, one devoted daughter, Kacy Capps and husband Nick, of Middlesboro, Kentucky, one precious granddaughter, Amelia Elizabeth Capps, little grandson on the way, Liam Chase Capps,  who will be told daily how wonderful his Mamaw truly was,  two dear sisters, Jaquetta Ayers, and husband Lemuel, of Harrogate, Tennessee, Janice McKinney and husband Randall, of Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, her church family, and many dear friends who will miss her shining light so very much.

The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to Tennessee Cancer Specialist, Dr. Richard Lee and Veronica for their compassion, the staff of Bluegrass Hospice and Harrogate Family Medical Clinic for their tender care.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Green Hills Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ferlion Daniels and Rev. Steve Pack officiating.  Music will be provided by the Clear Fork Church Singers.

Interment will immediately follow at Green Hills Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Jeff Ayers, Jimmie Howard, Kenny Quillen, Terry Quillen, Gary Sampson, and Russell McKinney.
