VERDA JEAN BAKER

Verda Jean Dennison Baker, 84 of Pineville, KY went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord on July 8, 2021. Verda Jean was born on March 1, 1937, in Pineville, KY to the late Elizabeth “Dolly” Dennison.

Verda Jean married John E. Baker on December 8, 1956, at Speedwell, TN, and their lives were blessed with four sons.

Verda Jean was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved her family, her church, and all of the children she babysat and cared for as her own. Verda Jean’s greatest love was having her family together, and she loved cooking meals for them. She enjoyed preparing dishes to take to a church fellowship or to others in need. Verda Jean was also well known for her love of shopping and talking on the phone.

Verda Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John E. Baker. In addition, she greatly mourned the passing of her firstborn son, Gary L. Baker, who died on July 22, 2019. Also, preceding Verda Jean in death were her three sister-in-laws: Patty Baker of Middlesboro, KY; Geri Miller of Pineville, KY; and Modena Partin of Pineville, KY.

Verda Jean was a loving mother and left to grieve her passing are her sons and their families: Teddy and Tina Baker of Middlesboro, KY; Eddie Baker of Pineville, KY; and John and Misty Baker of Stoney Fork, KY. Also left to mourn her passing is her daughter-in-law, Bridget Baker of Middlesboro, KY. She is additionally survived by her two loved and precious grandchildren, Brittany Elizabeth Baker of Middlesboro, KY and John Ross Baker of Stoney Fork, KY. Other survivors include her brother-in-laws, Bill Baker of Middlesboro, KY and Jimmy Wayne Baker of Middlesboro, KY, and sister-in-law, Carolyn Taylor of Pineville, KY. She leaves behind some special friends: Sally Baker, Sharon Brock, Brenda Smith, Debbie Sutton, and Debbie Good. Also left to mourn her passing are her nieces, nephews, and many other friends who will miss her dearly.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Kevin Baker, Billy Keith Taylor, Bryan Owens, Caleb Baker, Lester Adkins, and B.J. Brock.

Funeral Services for Verda Jean will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel in Middlesboro, KY with Pastor Jeff Kersey and Pastor Jeff Hatfield officiating.

Graveside Services to immediately follow at the Peavley Cemetery at Clear Creek.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 12, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at Green Hills Funeral Home.
