VIOLET PRATER DUNN

Violet June Prater Dunn, age 58, of Middlesboro, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on April 25, 2026 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

She was born on January 28, 1968 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Ivan Wesley Hillier and Ida Marie Cody Hillier who survives.

Violet had a mother’s love for her children that was unmatched and was a strength for them through the trials of life. She likewise had a special bond with her grandchildren; she was even accused of “loving them more”. No matter the circumstances or where life may have taken them, her children and grandchildren were always her first priority, and she was always a constant anchor they knew they could count on.

When she wasn’t with her family, Violet was usually on the phone with them, especially on Thursday nights to discuss the latest episode of her favorite show, Grey’s Anatomy. She also enjoyed attending Shiloh Church when she was able.

Violet’s love and dedication never wavered, was unconditional and a grounding presence. There is nothing quite like a mother’s love, and hers will live on through her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her father, Ivan Hillier, she was reunited again with her daughter, Katelyn Prater and father-in-law who was more like a father to her, Toney Prater.

Left to cherish her memory, her mother Ida Hillier, children Jonathon Prater, Brandon Prater and Brittney Prater (Gary Lee Jr.), grandchildren Jessalyn Prater, Jerrica Prater, Jordyn Prater, Noah Prater, Oliver Prater, Emrah Lee, Haven Lee and Willow Lee, brothers Todd Hillier and Gary Hilliar, special aunts Janice Jones and Winnie Smallwood, husband Elzie Dunn, as well as a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her so dearly.

The family of Violet Prater Dunn will receive friends from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2026 at Green Hills Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2026 at the Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David King officiating.

Graveside Services to immediately follow at the Prater Family Cemetery, Beans Fork Rd., Middlesboro, Kentucky.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Prater, Brandon Prater, Gary Lee Jr., Barry Boggs, Austin Garrett, Jayden Garrett and Raymond Lester.
